As far as I know, spike-entering has little to know effect in getting a top score as getting a top score relies more on luck with Echo + SRB than people actually kd'ing you. I never even thought about spike entering throughout the event until I read it on the forums, since I figured pretty early on that there would be not much point, since it depends more on the boxes.

Most of it, its good news, and indeed sounds fun, but sadly in my perspective the rollerbeetle arena as lost its appeal.
Not only because of the exploits, but also because the reward system was flawed, but this was already way too talked about...
Hope it will be a fun weekend.

Cheating?
"Playing to win".
It's not using any exploit or ability no-one else had access to. No hidden part of the game. It's using your mind to push things to the next level.
http://www.sirlin.net/Features/featu...ToWinPart1.htm
People got on the top 100 through luck and normal racing also.

It's a fine idea. Any excuse to have a weekend off minigames is great. GJ all envolved.

Please make dodgeball and snowball arenas teamable. I hate the leechers(afkers), bots, and noobs im forced to play with for the teamable events constantly.

Hi Gaile,
I think its lovley that Anet keeps giving us these events .I was just wondering, which campaign must I own in order to have access to the event? Or is the event avaiable to all campaigns?

Bah! Humbug!
JK, it was fun. I still couldn't figure out rollerbeetle skills though. It always seemed like everyone would gang up on me.

It would be nice if they prevented box-sitting (which slows everyone down). I've come across a few times when someone just sat on a box for 2 seconds early in the match trying to get the super-roller and echo... and then hoping they get another one later in the track. For instance, if they implemented a 2 second delay in being able to get another skill from a box... that would at least deter some people.

Yes, you got it, that's correct. Also, you forgot: when the top 100 list recorded individual times, and multiple listings from the same people accounted for 40% (or more, that's just the same names counted + a few alt characters on the same accounts) of the list. So uber prizes were handed out through an inconsistent manner, and contrary to what was advertised. And no comment about it! Awesome. I was 600 points off of the top 100 list - 40 duplicates certainly affects me, and tbh the entire event is marred.

Scyfer: Don't give up hope yet:
Below is a reply to a question I asked Gaile in another thread. Basically, if you scored very near the top 100, you should talk to the rewards NPC when the Roller-Beetle arena opens again this weekend. Although only the top 100 times are shown, it looks strongly like the top 100 accounts WILL receive a beetle if you talk to the rewards NPC. I was a couple of K off the leader board personally, so have already given up hope LOL.
Good luck!

Or - is the top 100 list going to be revised?
If the first option is correct, then anyone with a score in the 471-472K range would be wise to check with the Rewards NPC just in case.
|
I don't see any harm in talking to the NPC, and I do think there may be gain. So yes, I would recommend that people talk to the NPC and determine if their account is in the Top 100! Good luck!

The thread for Gaile's quote is here:
http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...php?t=10121985
Post number 16 I think.
Good luck with getting a beetle!
(Ignore my typo in the original post where I mention scores of 671-672K... Gaile quoted me so fast that I didn't get the chance to go backand correct it to 471-472K LOL)

In addition to having some great info from Gaile about a planned reorganizing of the top 100, the thread linked above is involved with collectiong donations for namkey, the forum member who risked his top 100 spot (and prize) to create a detailed guide that enabled many people to improve their times and better enjoy the beetle race. Read the details there and, if you feel inclined, leave a post stating your intention to donate.

They just reposted the top times from New Years, not only did you win a beetle you tied up 4 additional spots with your runs. I am sure this is due in no small part to Namkey's aforementioned guide. Doesn't seem to be any changes thus far to this list...all bets could be off.
|
Unfortunately, I actually tied up 7 additional spots (3 entries are under my other RP character names). There was never any intention of keeping anyone from getting a beetle, and from what Gaile has said no one who was bumped from the list by multiple entries will lose out on their prize. At any rate, the effort right now is to recognize namkey and not to dwell on how the festival weekend played out.

Alts on the same account. It was clearly stated in the description of the even that there would be one prize awarded per account. And that's exactly what happend.
Why are you trying so hard to pick fights? You joined this forum to rail on this topic, and you have barely let up since. I appreciate your pledge for namkey... can we focus on that, please?

That should have been enough, considering there were at least 30 places left. I still haven't heard of anyone outside of the top 100 getting a reward...

Yeah Ducky, you have a decent chance with that score. Just sit tight and keep your fingers crossed, you may have some good luck coming your way soon.

I dont think they really changed the scoreboard at all, Im sitting on a 472797 and by looking at the rate of decrease at the bottom of the board, if theres 30+ slots to be open I should be on it, nevertheless someone that is at 4729xx (.2 sec off last score)
